1)Animal cruelty
There are several cases of animal cruelty weither that means physical or emotional. Although I’m not a fan of those ASPCA sad Sarah Mclachlan commercials, those commercials are still seen today (but with a different sad song). There’s also the case of animals being exploited through animal testing and used for their fur. I think it’s possible for this matter to change, especially with cruelty-free products being on the rise. There are also certain areas in the U.S. that make it against the law to hurt and animal, but this isn’t completely national.
2)Tearing down nature to build more homes
This is something I’m seeing in my backyard, literally. There are new subdivisions opening and I heard that within the next four years, part of our “green belt” in our backyard will be torn down to widen the street. This would help traffic since the area is expanding. Building more houses it tearing down trees and ruining the ecosystem in an otherwise rural area. Not to mention this increases infestations of scorpions in our neighborhood.
3)Hard water
Hard water is something I’ve experienced both in my hometown of Corpus Christi, TX and where I currently live in San Antonio TX. Supposedly there are benefits to driving water with added minerals, but aside from that; it’s rather an inconvenience. It dries out the skin, hair and creates build-up on metal materials like faucets. My home currently has a “soft” water system, so I don’t experience the bad effects anymore, but it’s an expensive plan that shouldn’t be a luxury to own.
4)Graphic Designers being underpaid
Ever since I became a designer, I realize how little they get paid. I’ve searched for job opportunities and a large amount offer around minimum-wage pay for a full-time job. When I did freelancing for a bit, it was hard to find clients who were willing to pay for my services because I was asking for too much. On a freelancing website, called Upwork, there are clients asking for a branding package for $25, with multiple revisions included. I’m not sure why this is. Are clients unaware of the work it takes to make designs or do they just don’t want to pay? I think this is something that can slowly change, but not anytime soon.
5)Procrastination
I have a problem with procrastination, like many other and it’s an inconvenient thing to have. For me, I procrastinate because I don’t see the bigger picture and I’m a borderline “perfectionist.” But, what is the case for everyone else and is it possible to stop it? I think having reminders help, but would it work for everyone and is it possible to stop it completely? I think procrastination relates to stress and anxiety as well, so perhaps anxiety is the root of the problem?
